What to do When You Get into a Motor Accident

The GIA introduces the 3 steps reporting process to make it easy for drivers to remember what to do in an accident:

  • Exchange particulars and take note of vehicle numbers
    • Particulars include
      • NRIC/ FIN
      • Name
      • Contact number
      • Address
      • Insurer
    • Digital photos of accident scene
      • These will be useful when you are drawing the sketch plan of your accident during accident reporting
      • It will help to serve as evidence relating to the accident
    • Call your insurer’s hotline for a tow truck (if your vehicle is no longer in drivable condition)
    • Take your vehicle, damaged or not, to the approved reporting centre or authorized workshop within 24 hours (or by the next working day) to report the accident

It is important to avoid all unauthorized tow-truck and repair workshops for the purpose of accident reporting. Only Reporting Centres/ Workshops authorized by your insurer has rightful access to the system required for filing of accident reports.
